About Shadows of Futurity
The Hollow Men inspired me to consider liminal states and forms, and the feeling being trapped in-between various possible realities. The ‘shadow’ reminded me of my own experiences of sleep paralysis, of being a passive observer and being powerless to act. Because of this I wanted to approach the piece from a transformational & morphological perspective, to create sounds & structures that are in flux and do not fully form or resolve.
Sophia is a producer and sonic artist, who’s work operates within sound system culture and electroacoustic composition. Central to her practice is an ongoing investigation of the interconnected nature of ecologies, ecosystems and technology. Her work strives to capture the tension that binds these liminal states, seeking to envision a plurality of possible futures and re-imagined pasts.
Her first full-length work ‘Chrysalis’, described in The Wire magazine as ‘a gritty, heavily processed slab of dark ambient’, was released on London’s Astro:Dynamics label in 2014. In 2016 she released ‘Singulacra’ on US label ‘Kathexis’ which featured in FACT Magazine’s Top 50 Albums of the Year. Her club and audio-visual performances have been presented across Europe and the UK, and utilise elements of jungle, experimental composition and immersive sound-design.
